Abstract

843,382. Ball-bearings. INTERNATIONAL PACKINGS CORPORATION. Dec. 2, 1958 [Jan. 9, 1958], No. 38883/58. Class 12 (1). [Also in Groups XXVI and XXXV] In an oil seal for bearings comprising a rubber, &c. washer 10 reinforced by a disc 12 and adapted to be press-fitted in one race 18 of the bearing with a flexible sealing lip 26 engaging the other race 16, the edge of the disc opposite the lip is of substantially the same diameter as the washer 10 and has a notch 14 for the insertion of an extractor tool to facilitate removal of the seal. Three equispaced notches 14 may be provided. The disc is preferably of metal and bonded to the washer 10 during moulding, the notches being filled with the washer material which is deformed when the extractor tool is used to remove the seal. The race 18 is chamfered at 24 to facilitate insertion of the seal.
