Abstract

1,256,852. Seals for rolling bearings. SKF KUGELLAGERFABRIKEN G.m.b.H. 19 June, 1970 [21 June, 1969], No. 29822/70. Headings F2A and F2B. A sealing unit for a bearing comprises an annular flinger disc 11 or 12 having a flinger flange 14 and a cylindrical part 13, and a sealing ring 6 which is resiliently deformed into rubbing contact with the cylindrical part and is bonded to a reinforcing ring 8, the cylindrical part being so formed at its end 15 remote from the flinger flange as to limit axial movement of the sealing ring and reinforcing ring. As shown, the cylindrical part 13 may be flanged at 15 to provide a labyrinth seal as well as retaining means for the sealing ring and reinforcing ring 6, 8. During assembly, the cylindrical part is pushed on to the inner race 2 so that either the end 15 abuts a shoulder 16 or a rib 17 abuts the end of the race. The sealing ring 6 of synthetic rubber is bonded by adhesion or vulcanization to the reinforcing ring 8 which may be made of metal and formed either flat or bent at 10 as shown.
