Abstract

A composition for detecting reducing sugars in blood comprises glucose oxidase, peroxidase, and a compound which undergoes a colour reaction in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and a buffer for effecting a pH in the range of 4 to 6 on reaction of the composition. Additionally protein degradation products such as glutamic acid, glycine, algin, polypeptides, proteoses and gelatine may be employed as stabilizers, for the composition. The composition made into a suspensional solution may be used to impregnate a bibulous material such as wood or paper having any desired shape or size, splinters and sticks of glass, metal or plastic. The gelatin or other protein degradation product may be used for effecting adhesion. Alternatively the composition may be formed into a table. 2,7-diaminofluorene and ortho tolidine hydrochlorides are generally used as the indicators. The parent Specification describes the composition for detecting glucose comprising glucose oxidate, peroxidates and a compound which undergoes colouring action in the presence of hydrogen peroxide.
