Abstract

Inocula for use in the submerged fermentation production of citric acid are prepared by inoculating sterilized maize bran with spores of Aspergillus niger in the presence of from 500 to 2000 ml. of sterile water having dissolved therein a small amount of a wetting agent, e.g. "Tween" (Registered Trade Mark), per 1200 grams of the bran and incubating the resulting mixture whilst circulating sterile air therethrough. A suitable cultivation is described. Specifications 606,897 and 653,808 are referred to.
