Abstract

A pigment paste comprising a fine dispersion of an organic pigment in a liquid non-ionic surface-active agent substantially free from water is incorporated into urea-formaldehyde and phenol-formaldehyde resins and rubber latices. The term "organic pigment" is stated to include carbon black. The surface-active agent may be diluted with a plasticiser or other inert organic liquid. Surface-active agents mentioned are long chain esters of polyethylene glycols and condensation products of alkylene oxides with long chain fatty alcohols or alkylated phenols. In examples, a pigment paste comprising Ingalite Crimson SC and the condensation product of ethylene oxide and oleyl alcohol is incorporated into (3) a rubber stock containing pale crepe rubber, whiting, zinc oxide, titanium oxide, sulphur, mercapto-benzothiazole and tetra-methyl-thiuram disulphide, and (5) a resin composition containing phenol-formaldehyde resin, wood flour, hexamethylenetetramine, calcium hydroxide, naphthalene and stearic acid.ALSO:A pigment paste comprises a fine dispersion of an organic pigment in a liquid non-ionic surface-active agent, the paste being substantially free from water. The paste is made by grinding a substantially dry organic pigment with the surface-active agent in the substantial absence of water. The term "organic pigment" is stated to include carbon black. The surface-active agent may be diluted with a plasticizer or other inert organic liquid. Surface-active agents mentioned are long-chain esters of polyethylene glycols and condensation products of alkylene oxides with long-chain fatty alcohols or alkylated phenols. Examples are given.ALSO:A pigment paste comprising a fine dispersion of an organic pigment in a liquid non-ionic surface-active agent substantially free from water is incorporated into oil points and varnishes. The term " organic pigment " is stated to include carbon black. The surface-active agent may be diluted with a plasticizer or other inert organic liquid. Surface-active agents mentioned are long-chain esters of polyethylene glycols and condensation products of alkylene oxides and long chain fatty alcohols or alkylated phenols. In an Example (13) a pigment paste is incorporated into an alcoholic solution of shellac.
