Abstract
841,387. Nuclear fusion reactors. DIEBNER, K. Nov. 20, 1957 [Nov. 30, 1956], No. 36108/57. Class 39(4). A method of producing a fusion reaction comprises compressing a fuel such as deuterium by means of an explosive and passing an electric discharge through the compressed fuel to increase its temperature further. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, deuterium is contained in a chamber 5 provided with arcing electrodes 3 which may be of lithium 6. A discharge is maintained between the electrodes and the surrounding explosive 1 detonated; at the time of maximum compression the discharge is reinforced by discharging a condenser through it.
