Abstract
841,364. Battery changing systems; automatic voltage and current control systems. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE A.G. June 7, 1957 [June 9, 1956], No. 18230/57. Class 38 (4). A generator supplying a lighting load and a buffer battery is controlled by a regulator responsive to generator power output at the beginning of the change, the connections being changed to give voltage regulation at a certain changing condition. A generator 1, 2 changing a buffer battery is controlled by a field regulator 3 having two voltage coils 4, 6 and a current coil 5 connected to a relay Y. At the beginning of the change, the load current flowing through a coil 32 operates a relay Q energizing relay Y which disconnects coil 6 and inserts coil 5 in series with the load. At a predetermined voltage an opposing relay coil 33 releases the relay Q, and in turn relay Y, placing the coils 4, 6 in series and disconnecting coil 5. The generator then acts under voltage control the changing current being reduced below the operating value of the coil 32. A heavy load switched across the battery will revert the system to power regulation. In another arrangement, one relay only is employed, the contacts on relay Y being operated by the armature of relay Q. In this arrangement a cut-out is provided to disconnect the generator from the battery.
