Abstract
841,040. Heating air for combustion. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. Aug. 6, 1958 [Aug. 6, 1957], No. 25261/58. Class 51 (1). Air for combustion in steam generator is heated by two heat exchangers 1, 2 arranged in series in the waste gas outlet 3. A waste heat. recovery boiler 6 and an economizer 8 associated with it are arranged in parallel with the heat exchange sections 1, 2 respectively. The waste heat boiler 6 supplies low-pressure steam to soot blowers in the main unit and to an auxiliary turbine 13. Steam bled from the turbine passes to a preheater 17 for the air flowing to the air heater sections 2, 1, thus reducing the risk of corrosion in air heaters 1, 2. In a modification, the waste heat boiler is arranged in series with and between the air heater sections in the gas path, and operates without an economizer. In an arrangement dispensing with a waste heat boiler, a single air heater section 38 is arranged on the outlet side of an economizer 32 feeding the main steam generator. Low pressure steam bled from a turbine 35 driven by the steam generator passes to a preheater 39 for the air flowing to the heater 38. The condensate produced in preheater 39 is fed into the main feedwater supply through an auxiliary economizer 43 in parallel with the air heater 38.
