Abstract
840,486. Magnetic record apparatus. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M. ERICSSON. Feb. 18, 1958 [Feb. 26, 1957], No. 5297/58. Class 40 (2). [Also in Group XXXIV] In a braking device for braking tape recorder reels or the like, a leaf-spring 2 provided with a braking surface 3 is disposed against a braking drum; the upper surface of which acts as a supporting surface for a tape reel (not shown), the leaf-spring 2 being mounted on a support 4, 5 pivoted at 7 to a carrier plate, the arrangement being such that when the support is limited to a first position by a stop-member 11 controlled by a control-knob, the leaf-spring does not make braking contact with the drum whereas when the support is limited to a second position and the reel is rotating in a given sense, the frictional force arising out of contact between the leafspring and the drum acts in the same direction as the biasing force created by spring 8 to brake the drum. Fig. 4 illustrates brakes of the above description arranged in relation to two reels 14 and 15 of a tape recorder. The braking devices are so arranged at both reels as to avoid an unwinding of the tape 16 from the reels. Upon starting of the reels the driving-gear is coupled by means of a control-rod to the reel on to which the tape is to be wound and the brakes are disconnected by means of the mechanical linkage device connected to the control knob. Upon disconnection of the driving gear the two brakes are so connected whereby only that one functions which affects the unwinding reel while the other one is retained by the tension of the tape.
