Abstract

699,400. Magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE CHARLEROI. Oct. 1, 1952 [Oct. 26, 1951], No. 24580/52. Addition to 678,133. Class 40 (ii) In an improvement or modification of the mechanism of the parent Specification, the take-up drum 5 is provided with an individual driving motor 140 which is controlled by means whereby intermittent rotary movement is transmitted to the take-up drum 5. The said means comprise circuit elements in series with the motor winding consisting of a negative temperature coefficient resistor 142 and a feeler-operated switch 143. When the magnetic tape 1 starts to became taut, a feeler member 145 in contact with the tape opens the switch 143 against the tension of a spring 144 and stops the motor 140. Almost immediately the tape slackens and releases the switch 143 so that the circuit is restored but, owing to the negative temperature coefficient of the resistance 142, full voltage is not restored to the motor for some moments thereby ensuring a more gentle acceleration.
