Abstract

PURPOSE:To keep tape tension nearly constant in the ending stage of a rewind by making it possible to loosen a band brake by deviating the tension arm in the direction of a tape sag when rewinding the magnetic tape. CONSTITUTION:When magnetic tape T is rewound, tension arm 20 is deviated in the sag direction of the tape to loosen band brake 23. In the ending stage of the rewind operation, tension arm 20 is displaced in its operation direction and magnetic tape T is stopped under certain tension. Consequently, tape T is rewound while stretched and in the ending stage of the rewind, the tape tension is kept nearly constant.
