Abstract

678,133. Magnetic recording apparatus. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE CHARLEROI. March 14, 1951. [March 14, 1950] No. 6118/51. Class 40 (ii). In a magnetic recording apparatus, a wide magnetic band 1 is drawn from a spool 21 by two feed rollers 8, 9 over an unreeling controller 60, a flanged guide roller 7, and an exploration table 3, the band then passing over a take-up controller 100 to a take-up spool 51. The feed roller 8 is mounted on a shaft 80 which is driven at constant speed by a motor 11 via gearwheels 110, 111, 114. The unreeling controller 60 comprises a pulley 6 on a spring loaded arm 61 which closes a switch 66 when the tension in the band increases, so that a magnetic coupling 112, Fig. 2, is brought into operation to drive the shaft 20, on which the spool 21 is mounted, in an unwinding direction. A similar device 100 opens a switch 106 when tension increases, so that a magnetic coupling 116 is de-energized to stop rotation of the take-up spool 51. A spring-loaded friction arm 53 and pad 52 ensures close winding on the spool 51, while a metallized strip 57 earths static charges arising from the friction caused by the pad 52. The transducer 4 is made to traverse the band 1 in the manner described in Specification 674,570.
