Abstract

840,015. Mountings for mortar barrels. DONNER, H. O. Sept. 10, 1958 [Nov. 13, 1957], No. 29044/58. Class 92. [Also in Group XXV] In a ball and socket coupling for a mortar barrel 1, the ball 3 is formed with a cylindrical part 5 having a diameter a little smaller than that of the socket opening 10, the socket being larger than a hemisphere. The arrangement is such that when the ball is positioned with the axis of the cylindrical part 5 substantially perpendicular to the plane of the opening 10, the ball can be introduced into the socket and upon tilting the barrel, the ball is retained in the socket for a shooting sector of 360 degrees. Preferably the axis of the cylindrical part 5 is disposed at an angle of about 15 - 30 degrees to the axis of the mortar barrel. A notch 6 in the neck 4 permits a low angle of firing.
