Class 120(2) and 120(3) In a ring-spinning machine with a normally stationary spindle and a reciprocating ring-rod, each spindle can be individually raised so that a transfer-tail can be wound on the lower part of the bobbin. In Fig. 1, as a spindle is lifted when a flanged sleeve 12 is raised by a rod 25 worked by a manually-rotated cam 27, a bobbin-supporting flange 17 is brought into the traverse-path of the ring 18. The yarn is then caught in a notch 40, Fig. 4, on the edge of the flange and guided by the shape of the base of the flange to an undercut ring 22 around which and a button 30 it forms a series of loops. When the tail is fully wound, the bobbin is lowered so that the thread is caught in a second notch 42 on the flange to be lead away from the ring. When it is required to make use of the transfer-tail the yarn is severed above a blind hole 38, and the button depressed against a spring to transfer the tail to a part of the button of reduced diameter so that it can be removed as a hank. In starting-up, the yarn passes from drying-rolls 43 to an airejector unit 44, Fig. 8; it is now transferred to an air-ejector 45 which leads to a collecting box through the centre of the bobbin. As the spindle rotates, the yarn is caught in a notch 49 in a bar 50 at the top of the bobbin and broken, whereupon the yarn is transferred to the ring 18. After winding, the yarn is transferred to the ejector 44 until the next winding.
