Abstract

Finely-divided calcium carbonate containing in the crystal lattice 1-10% by weight of one or more calcium salts of oxyacids of elements of Group 3, 4, 5 and 6A of the Periodic Table excluding nitrogen, may be prepared by reacting milk of lime with carbon dioxide, one or more soluble salts of said acids being added to the liquid before, during or after carbonation. Specified oxyacid salts are silicates, aluminates, phosphates, borates, arsenates, molybdates, tungstates and fluorophosphates. Examples are given.ALSO:Calcium carbonate containing in the crystal lattice 1-10% by weight of one or more calcium salts of oxyacids of elements of Group III, IV, V and VIa of the Periodic Table other than nitrogen (see Group III) may be employed, if desired with a fatty acid or other coating agent, to improve the tensile strength, tear resistance and modulus of natural rubber.
