Abstract
The invention comprises 1-aza-2-lower alkyl-6 - tertiary - amino - lower alkylamino - 9-methylthioxanthones and acid addition salts thereof wherein the lower alkyl groups contain 5 carbon atoms at the most, and the preparation thereof by replacing the halogen atom in a 1-aza - 2 - lower alkyl - 6 - halo - 9 - methyl-thioxanthone by a tertiary amino-lower alkyl-amino group by known methods for replacements of this type, and if desired any salts obtained are converted into the free bases and any free bases into their acid addition salts. The compounds of the invention may also be prepared by converting a suitable residue in the 6-position e.g. an amino group into a tertiary amino group e.g. by reaction with an ester of a tertiary aminoalkanol and a strong acid. 1 - Aza - 2 : 9 - dimethyl - 6 - chloro - thioxanthone and 1 - aza - 2 - isobutyl - 6 - chloro - 9-methyl-thioxanthone are prepared by reacting 2-chloro - 3 - cyano - 6 - methyl - or 6 - isobutyl-pyridines with sodium 2 - methyl - 5 - chlorothiophenol to form 6 - methyl - and 6 - isobutyl - 3 - cyano - 2 - (51 - chloro - 21 - methylphenyl - thiol) - pyridines, hydrolysing these to the 6 - methyl - or 6 - isobutyl - 3 - carboxy-2 - (51 - chloro - 21 - methyl - phenyl - thiol)-pyridines and subjecting these to ring closure.ALSO:Pharmaceutical preparations suitable for enteral, parenteral or local administration comprise 1-azo-2 lower alkyl-6-tertiary amino-lower alkyl-amino-9-methyl thioxanthones and acid addition salts thereof, wherein the lower alkyl groups contain at the most 5 carbon atoms, in admixture with a pharmaceutical organic or inorganic, solid or liquid carrier. The preparations may be in the form of tablets, dragees, salves, creams, solutions, suspensions or emulsions and may contain auxiliary substances, e.g. preservatives, stabilizing, wetting or emulsifying agents, salts for varying the osmotic pressure and buffer substances. Suitable salts are hydrochloric, acetic, propionic, oxalic, malonic, succinic, malic and benzene or toluene sulphonic acid.
