Abstract

838,662. Road cleaning machines. FAHRZEUGBAU HALLER G.m.b.H. Oct. 4, 1957. No. 31190/57. Class 107 Roads are cleaned by means of a motor vehicle from which liquid is continuously sprayed on to the surface of roads in front of a washing device and in such quantity that muddy liquid is produced with the road dirt and is moved laterally across the surface of the road by the washing device and is conveyed back into the vehicle by suction. As shown in Fig. 1 fresh water from compartment 14 of the diagonally divided tank 12 of the road vehicle is sprayed by nozzles 19 and the muddy liquid is swept by the diagonally arranged rotary washing device 18 towards the inlet 20 of suction pipe 21, suction being generated by pump 22, which raises it to the second compartment 15 of the tank 12. The liquid separates in this compartment into a layer of sludge 29 and a layer of muddy water 30, the former being removed as desired through a trap door 23 extending across the width of the tank, and the latter being removed by pumping through pipes 27 and 28, the level of the inlet of pipe 27 being adjusted by lever 26. The muddy water may, if desired, be returned to the spray 19 after purification, e.g. by filters. Diagonal division of the tank ensures that centre of gravity S1 of the tank, when compartment, 14 is full and compartment 15 empty, is separated by not more than “ of the length of the tank from the centre of gravity S2 when compartment 14 is empty and compartment 15 is full.
