Abstract
837,437. Making paper &c. bags; cartons. FLAX, V. July 20, 1956, No. 22523/56. Classes 18 and 94(2). A flattened tubular web 1 of flexible material with inwardly-extending bellows folds 4, 5 is transversely sealed at spaced intervals 8 and cut through the seals and midway between them to form separate bags. The weight of the filling assisted if necessary by gas pressure causes the bottom to assume a block form 10. The open top 11 is then folded and sealed. The fold lines for the top and bottom may be impressed on the web 1, or lining portions may be provided over the areas bordering the fold lines to facilitate the folding. Alternatively a thread, wire cord or strip may be bonded to the web along the fold lines. The web may be of cardboard scored at the fold lines. Fig. 7, shows a modified bottom fold in which the sealed part 8<SP>1</SP> is made longer and folded to bring the cut edge into register with the lower edge 8<SP>11</SP> of the container. The ends may be mainained flat by means of a label. The faces 2, 3 at the open end may be bonded to the adjacent surface of one of the bellows side portions to facilitate folding.
