834,874. Pistons. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. July 23, 1958 [July 26, 1957], No. 23735/58. Class 122 (1). A piston 10, Figs. 1 and 3, for an internal combustion engine comprises a number of deformable lands 14 formed only on those parts of its circumference in the region of the gudgeon-pin axis. The lands 14 are produced during the formation of grooves 13, such as by milling, and, together with the grooves, extend only one eighth of the circumference on each side of the gudgeon-pin axis 15; the lands are compressed during the running-in of the piston so that the latter bears against the cylinder wall. The grooves serve as a labyrinth seal and also effect heat dissipation. The piston may be of oval shape with the major axis extending in the direction of the gudgeon pin.
