Abstract

834,688. Textile ring-spinning apparatus. SCRAGG & SONS Ltd., E. May 27, 1958 [May 29, 1957], No. 17108/57. Class 120(2) In a ring spinning or twisting machine, each spindle is fixed coaxially within its ring and the drive is transmitted directly and indirectly from the driving belt by a displaceable belt-engaging wharve. The spindle 41 is rotatably mounted in a sleeve 43 in housings carried by the frame, and is secured to a wharve 52. A second wharve 56 carried by an arm 53a on a sleeve 53 rotatably mounted on the sleeve 43 carries teeth 60 which mesh with teeth 52a on the first wharve. The parts are maintained in their inoperative position shown by the pressure of a cam or an inclined surface on the sleeve 53. When the cam is removed a spring 62 rotates the arm 53a to bring the wharve 56 against the belt 61 for the latter to make contact with the wharve 52, the drive also being transmitted through the meshing gears.
