Abstract

833,715. Container closures ; opening containers. FRIED, L., and D'ANDREA, A. R. March 28, 1957, No. 10154/57. Class 125(2). In a container closure arrangement a plate member 14 with a dispensing aperture 26 is seamed to an end 18 of the container body 20 and a frangible member 22 of aluminium foil or other material is bonded by a coating 15 of latex to the underside of member 14, an opener device 24 having flat portions 30, 32 joined by a bend 34 and a point 36 being removably inserted between members 14, 22 to cover aperture 26 from both sides. In a modification Figs. 6, 7 the opener 40 has a pair of flat end portions 42, 44 and an intermediate portion 46, portion 42 being pointed and portion 44 having a slot 40. To open the container, a fingertip is engaged beneath the portions 42, 46 to lift them to the position shown in dotted lines at 56, Fig. 7, and the pointed end 48 is aligned with slot 50 and forced thereinto to puncture the seal 22<SP>1</SP> and relieve gas pressure. The opener can then be removed and used to open the disc beneath aperture 26<SP>1</SP>. In a further modification, Fig. 9, the opener 60 has a point 68 and a V-shaped slit 78 and a slit 92, a pointed spur 90 being engaged through slit 92, by bending along line of slit extensions 80, 82, to puncture the disc. In another modification, Fig. 14, the opener has a pointed spur 108 and a rounded rib instead of a sharp bend.
