833,698. Belt conveyer idler rollers FISCHER, A. Jan. 11, 1957 [Jan. 13, 1956], No. 1235/56. Class 78 (1). An idler roller assembly for a belt conveyer consists of a plurality of axially short rollers mounted for independent rotation on a spindle, each roller being formed entirely of a synthetic resin material having a high resistance to wear and a high degree of surface smoothness. As shown, a set 7 of rollers is provided for the upper run of a belt conveyer and comprises rollers 10 of a suitable synthetic resin each having an aperture 10a for independent mounting on a sleeve 9 also of a synthetic resin, the sleeve being sufficiently resilient to allow it to be bent by an internal wire spindle 5 to a desired trough shape. The diameter of the aperture 10a is slightly larger than that of the sleeve which is in turn about three times as large as that of the spindle 5. The spindle 5 is adjustably secured at its ends to brackets 4a by set-screws 6. Spacer sleeves 11 made of a polyvinyl chloride resin containing a large fraction of plasticizers are disposed between the rollers and have a large central aperture so that they do not contact the sleeve, but adhere to the hubs of the rollers 10 by the provision of suction cups 12 on these sleeves. Dirt is kept out from the ends of the assembly by cup-shaped members 13 having a flange 13a located adjacent a flange 14a on an end sleeve 14. A set of rollers for the lower run of the belt is constituted by a smaller number of rollers 16 having long hubs, spaced by plain sleeves 17, both rollers and sleeves being independently rotatable on a plastic sleeve which fits closely on a straight spindle 5a.
