Abstract
833,316. Trueing grinding wheels. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN A. G. July 7, 1958 [July 5, 1957], No. 21759/58. Class 60. An arrangement for trueing a profiled grinding wheel used for grinding helically-toothed involute spur gears comprises a trueing tool 6, Fig. 4, disposed on a plate 12 capable of performing a rolling motion on a cylinder 1 which has a diameter equal to the base circle diameter of the workpiece and is fixed to the machine with its axis parallel to that of the workpiece, the trueing tool acting along the straight generating line 4 at the helix angle of the involute helicoidal surface of the toothing. The tool is mounted on the plate 12 and may be in the form of a knife edge 6<SP>1</SP> lying on the line 4, or a diamond 8, Fig. 5, reciprocated along the line 4 which is tangential to the cylinder and at the angle #g from a line 21 on the surface of the cylinder parallel to the axis 2 thereof, the diameter of the cylinder being equal to the base circle diameter of the workpiece. The length of the knife edge 61 or travel of the tool is slightly greater than a length b, c, Fig. 1, the ends of which are in planes b, b<SP>1</SP>, c, c<SP>1</SP>, lying at the ends of a line b, c<SP>1</SP> representing the line of engagement between the grinding wheel and workpiece. Both faces 10<SP>1</SP>, 1011 of a grinding wheel 10, Fig. 6, or a face on each of two grinding wheels, on a shaft 22, which is rockable and vertically adjustable, may be trued by tools in the form of knife edges or by diamonds 8 reciprocated manually or by motors in the direction of axes 17 on heads 16 adjustable to the helix angle #g of the workpiece on arms 18 secured to plates 12 capable of rolling by means of bands on the cylinder 1, the plates engaging one another by means of lugs 20 fastened to the bands. The arrangement may be mounted behind the tailstock of the machine with the axis of the cylinder coaxial with the axis of the workpiece or suspended above the grinding wheel, the distance between the axes of the cylinder and grinding wheel being the same as that between the grinding wheel and workpiece. The cylinder may be interchangeable with others of different diameter or have an adjustable diameter.
