832,750. Hedge-cutters ; mowing machines. WRIGHT, E. J., KAYE, E., and SHARP, J. R. May 15, 1956 [May 18, 1955], No. 14397/55. Classes 6(2) and 6(3). [Also in Group XXIV] A hedge-cutter, for attachment to the mechanical cultivator described in Specification 803,111, comprises a driving spindle 35 for coupling to the cultivator motor, two camoperated cable transmission elements 49, 50 moving in opposite phase and being long and flexible enough to convey movement to the tool-head, Fig. 4, which has a reciprocable blade 60 operated by the two elements. The drive from the cultivator motor 18 is taken by a belt 122 to a vertical shaft 19 which drives the rotor shaft 21, the rotor being replaced by two wheels 23 which rotate idly. A belt 137 connects the shaft 19 with the spindle 35 which is carried by a boss 34 mounted on a housing formed by two plates 24, 25 spaced apart by blocks 26, 27, 28 and secured to the cultivator chassis 11 by a bracket 32. The shaft 35 carries a cam 36 which co-acts with rollers carried by pivoted bell-cranks 39, 40 (see Group XXIV) to transmit motion to two spring-loaded plungers 47, 48 secured to the ends of Bowden cables 49 50, the remote ends 69, 71 of the cables being pivoted to a rocking lever 70 attached to the moving blade 60 of the hedge-cutter, the moving blade being slotted at 61, 62 and being held in contact with the fixed blade 57, 58 by a guard 67 which is bolted to the fixed blade through the slots 61, 62.
