Abstract

710,280. Hedge-trimmers. CHADWICK, E. H. Dec. 10, 1952 [Sept. 10, 1951], No. 21270/51. Class 6 (2) A hedge-trimming appliance comprises a body 1 carrying superimposed movable and fixed multi-toothed blades 17 and 15, the body being provided with a driving shaft 4 extending parallel to the .blades and carrying a swashplate 5 engaging between abutments 22 on the movable blade 17 so as to reciprocate it. The device is applied to a portable electric drill having a motor 11 driving a chuck 14 which receives the shaft 4. The shaft is formed with teeth 8 which drive a toothed ring 7 on the swash-plate 5, the latter being carried by a spindle 6 mounted in the body 1. The abutments comprise rollers 22 on the blade 17, which, like the blade 15, may have teeth on both sides. A plate 19 and bolts 16 maintain the blades in contact, the blade 17 being slotted, at 18, to accommodate the bolts. The casing 1 carries a tubular part 9 which fits over a boss 10 on the drill-motor and is locked by a set-screw 12.
