832,731. Motor vehicle roof lining. WOODALL INDUSTRIES Inc. Oct. 15, 1957, No. 32150/57. Class 20(4) A head lining for a motor vehicle body comprises a plurality of flexible panels 136, 138 held along their margins by flexible supporting strips 140, the assembly of panels and strips being bowed and stressed upwardly to the mid portion of the roof body 120, the outer side panels 138 being transversely bowed upwardly and supported on their longitudinal margins on supporting means 166 and the centre panel 136 bowed upwardly transversely and longitudinally. The centre panel 136 which may be either of uniform width or triangular is of resilient thin hardboard, perforated to permit passage of sound waves to an insulating pad 142 of fibrous wadding, such as fibre glass. The supporting strips 140 as described in Specification 832,730 comprise base portions 144 and cap portions 146 having spring lips 148 and side walls 150 which engage the panels.--The strips are bowed upwards and secured at their ends by screws 152 engaging a box-like frame portion 128 on the roof 120 and secure centre panels 136. The side panels 138 may be of fibre-board and are bowed to a compound curvature which is achieved by bending along transverse beads 156. The head liner panels and strips may extend transversely or lengthwise of the vehicle body.
