Abstract
832,699. Hooks. STIGHELEN, J., VAN DER. Feb. 10, 1958 [Nov. 22, 1956], No. 35770/56. Class 89(2) A towing-hook, e.g. for ships, comprises a hook-member 17 pivotally mounted on the end of a cylinder 1 attached to a tug &c. and provided with a piston 8 having a tongue 9 engaging a notch 18 in member 17 to retain said member in its operative position, there being another piston-and-cylinder 21 for restoring the member to its operative position after release therefrom. Pistons 5, 5a are moved against a spring 6 by pressure fluid, e.g. compressed air, supplied through bores 25, 26 to withdraw the tongue, thus allowing the member to pivot and release a rope &c. Pressure fluid is supplied through line 27 to cylinder 21 to move piston rod 20 and restore member 17 to its operative position, with stop 22 engaging cylinder 1 and the tongue engaging the notch. The pressure fluid is controlled by a valve, (not shown), but the piston 8 may be moved manually by a lever on a shaft 29 having an arm 28a engaging a slot 31 in the piston.
