Abstract

832,558. Cutlery handles. SNOW, J. E. April 30, 1958 [April 30, 1957], No. 13726/57. Class 61. The handle of an article of cutlery is moulded from thermo-plastic material around a core of elliptical cross-section so as to provide an elliptical tang receiving bore 11 adapted to receive a tang of complementary section or the flat rectangular tang 14 of a knife 13, the tang being of a width and thickness to form a tight fit when forced into the handle under pressure. A bolster 15 having a slot to accommodate the heel of the blade is provided on the tang. In a modification a central round bore extending into the handle for a shorter length than the elliptical bore is superimposed on the elliptical bore and receives a pair of legs extending one on each side of the tang and forming the divided shank of a bolster. The round bore is either drilled out of the bore 11 or formed during moulding.
