Abstract
842,083. Hand-tool handles. WALKER, H. Oct. 17, 1956 [Oct. 21, 1955], No. 30173/55. Class 61. In a hand-tool or article of cutlery in which the tang of the tool is assembled in the handle under endwise pressure, the handle 12 has a slot 13 of depth greater than the length of the tang, the slot having an elongated web 15 projecting from the base of the slot and joined to two opposite walls thereof, the web 15 which enters into the bifurcated end 17 of the tang 11 being of greater length than the bifurcation whereby deformation and spreading of the end of the stem 15 into an enlargement 18 at the end of the bifurcation is effected. The slot 13 is substantially constant in width, the tang being parallel sided and of such dimensions as to be a force fit in the slot. In modifications, the tang is tapered over the whole or part of its length. In another modification, shoulders provided on the blade at the junction with the tang enter shallow grooves in the end face of the handle. The handle is formed of thermo-setting plastic material.
