Abstract

831,623. Drying apparatus. WILLANS, K. W. Aug. 22, 1958 [Oct. 24, 1957; Jan. 6, 1958], Nos. 33231/57 and 440/58. Class 34(2) A method and apparatus for drying granular materials in sacks wherein warmed and/or dried air is delivered into the sack 2, Fig. 1, above the level of the material so that a portion of the air will flow through the material and escape to atmosphere partly through the walls of the sack and partly through an outlet tube 6 which extends into the material, the tube having at or near its lower end apertures 7 to admit the air and being open to atmosphere at its upper end. A rigid and substantially air-tight hood 1 is inserted into the mouth of the sack and pressed into the grain and the air is led thereto under pressure by a flexible hose 4 and tube 5 which is attached to the hood. The tube 6 is slidably mounted in the hood through a seal 8. In another arrangement inlet and outlet tubes 9, 6, Fig. 2, are held in position by drawing the upper edges of the sack around the tubes and the edges are secured together by spring clips 10, 11. In further arrangements a flexible air-impervious hood of sheet material, which has the inlet and outlet pipes secured thereto, is held in position over the top of the sack by a drawstring or elastic, or the flow of air may be reversed during a part of the drying operation with the air being introduced into the material through the tube 6 and escaping through tube 5 to atmosphere. Specification 586.324 is referred to.
