Abstract

867,941. Collapsible containers. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. Sept. 30, 1958 [Nov. 12, 1957], No. 31137/58. Class 66. [Also in Groups XXV and XXVIII] A collapsible container 10 of flexible material e.g. layers of cord fabric, is formed at its ends with conical portions 11, 12 the vertices of which are spaced laterally of the container. The container ends are closed by clamps 15, and are provided with a filling opening 14 and an opening 14a, Fig. 3, which may be used for pressurizing the container. The clamps 15 may be in the form of two rigid end-plates hinged at the apex 13 or a number of clamps may be used so permitting individual movement of the clamps. The angle at the apex 13, preferably one of 165 degrees, may be rounded off by a fillet. A loose lining 18 may be used. The container is designed to carry liquids and gases, and is especially suitable for viscous liquids e.g. molasses. Emptying may be carried out by suction through the opening 14 or by air pressure introduced through the opening 14a.
