Abstract

831,349. Radial cylinder pumps. DOWTY FUEL SYSTEMS Ltd. May 8, 1958 [May 9, 1957], No. 14804/57. Class 102(1). [Also in Group XXIX] The pistons of a radial cylinder pump engage, through shoes 6 and spherical bearings 5, a track ring 7 which is arranged for controlled limited rolling engagement with an abutment 31, whereby the stroke of the pistons may be varied, toothed engagement being provided by gear teeth 11, 12 between the track and abutment. In operation the reaction of the pistons holds the track against the abutment 31 which may be flat as shown or other desired shape ; the gear teeth may be arranged to absorb the reaction force. A further diametrically opposed abutment 29 is also provided. The track 7 is moved by means of a rack 14, which may be at an angle to the abutment 31, engaging teeth 13 on the track 7. The rack is formed with a piston 16 subjected to the outlet pressure passing through an orifice 34 to an outlet 35 controlled by a vent valve controlled by the fuel supply governing mechanism of a gas turbine engine supplied with fuel by the pump. The piston 16 may alternatively be connected to the track 7 by a pivoted link. The abutment 31 may be slidable to cause rolling of the track ring. The block 2 has two banks of cylinders and one end face abuts a ported valve 19. The other end of the block is pressed by an annular piston 26 in a cylinder 25 connected to the outlet port.
