Abstract
831,334. Magnetic workholders. PANTON, J. R., and WEBB, A., [trading as PANTON & WEBB.]. June 3, 1957 [June 1, 1956], No. 17067 /56. Class 60. A device for use in conjunction with a magnetic workholder and adapted to present an adjustably inclined workholding surface comprises a base member 2, a middle part 18 and an upper member 3. Each is built up from magnetic conductor laminations and non- magnetic laminations arranged alternately. The base member 2 has a concave upper surface 6 formed as part of a cylinder and receiving a convex lower surface 19 on the middle part 18. The latter has a concave upper surface 20 receiving a convex lower surface on the upper member 3, the latter having a flat upper surface on which the workpiece is placed. The magnetic conductor laminations of the middle part may be scolloped on one edge to provide pinnacles 27, the arrangement being such that the pinnacles of one conductor lamination, e.g. 30 of the upper portion of the middle part, contact pinnacles 28 of alternate conductor laminations of the lower portion of the middle part. Mechanical means may be provided for clamping the upper member 3 at the desired angle. The device may be used with a workholder of permanent magnet or electromagnetic type ; the base member may be an integral part of the magnetic workholder.
