Abstract

1,196,641. Magnetic holding devices. S. G. DAVIES. 31 May, 1968 [15 June, 1967], No. 27590/67. Heading H1P. As shown a magnetic work-holder comprises a pair of polepieces A, B connected in spaced parallel relationship by adjustable clamping means 6, the lower faces of each polepiece having castellations which are offset relative to those of the other polepiece. The device is placed on the holding face of a known magnetic chuck having magnetic poles 1B of one polarity inset in a surface 1A of the opposite polarity so that the castellations of polepiece A contact surface 1A and those of polepiece B contact inset poles 1B. The polepieces are magnetized with opposite polarities so that a workpiece 8 laid across their upper edges is held in position. Recesses 9 may be provided in the upper edges of the polepieces to locate the workpiece.
