Abstract

831,095. Carrier cartons. GILBEY Ltd., W. & A., and LE MAJO, W. M. Aug. 13, 1957 [Dec. 7, 1956], No. 37462/56. Class 18. A carton for wine glasses, which can be fitted in an open-ended carrier casing, comprises a floor portion formed with recesses 13 to locate the bases of the glasses to a roof portion having depending conical members 17 to engage their mouths. Two identical cartons 1 fit into an outer casing 2 formed with a carrying handle 3 in known manner ; each carton 1 comprises a front 5 having a window 8, a back and two end walls 7, and is provided with depending conical members 17 and circular recesses 13 formed in cardboard floor portion. Inside the outer shell of each carton 1 there is a folded up blank, (see Fig. 3), comprising upper and lower tray portions 15 and 12a respectively, the former being provided with three holes 16 aligned with three holes 13a in the latter which overlie the recesses 13. The conical members 17 are formed from triangular sheets of suitable material and have circumferential slits which coact with flats 20 and a tongue 22 in the edge of each hole 16 to prevent rotation and vertical movement. In a modification, Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown), the lower tray portion or floor 12a has openended slots in lieu of the holes 13a, and conical members 17 are wedged between the upper tray portion 15 and the inside of each glass, the circular edge of each member 17 being formed with a cutaway portion to ensure a tight fit against the portion 15.
