Abstract
830,956. Machinery guards. ATKINSON'S AGRICULTURAL APPLIANCES Ltd. May 8, 1958, No. 14717/58. Addition to 799,402. Class 80 (4). Each of the flared end pieces 26 on the tubular shaft guard 25 described in the parent Specification is provided with a thrust bearing 32 which bears against the boss 36 of the adjacent universal joint on the telescopic shaft 20 to prevent binding. As shown, each end piece is metallic and is welded to a ring 28 into which the end of the corrugated tube 25 is forced. The thrust bearing comprises an outer shaped ring 30 welded to the end piece 26, bearing balls 32, and an inner shaped ring 31 having peenedover tabs 35. The tube 35 is fitted in a slightly compressed state. When the tube is long it may be cut, the two halves being joined by a metal collar.
