Abstract

<PICT:0830435/IV (a)/1> A vulcanizing machine, particularly useful for making joins in conveyer belts, comprises main platens 10, 11 adapted to be heated, having mounted thereon hollow auxiliary platens 12, 13 through which cooling medium can be circulated. By means of retaining bolts 17 the top main and auxiliary platens 10 and 11 may be held in contact or, by slackening nut 19, spaced apart, and springs 21, mounted on brackets 20 secured to bottom platen 11 and to the machine body, urge auxiliary platen 13 upwardly and apart from main platen 11. In operation, parts to be joined are compressed between the empty auxiliary platens by urging the heated main platens together, after which screw clamps 24 preserve the compressive force between the auxiliary platens, through which cooling fluid is circulated, while the main platens are spaced therefrom.
