Abstract

1467425 Sheet forming D J MOUNTENEY and A F CARR 14 June 1974 [16 June 1973] 28734/73 Heading B5A A vacuum forming machine comprises a frame with an aperture across which a sheet can be placed with a vacuum applied to one side of the sheet, and clamp 12 to clamp marginal portions of the sheet adjacent the aperture, heaters 4 and 26 to soften the sheet, and a loading frame 24 adapted to be moved from a position where single sheets are loaded, to a position below the heater 4 where the clamps are pivoted to clamp the sheet below the frame before a mould carrying platform 28 is moved to contact the sheet. The clamp comprises members 12 hinged to frame members 6, which are slidably mounted at their ends 8 in adjacent members 6 to provide an adjustable support for the sheet, the members 12 being pivoted by piston devices 16 and connecting linkages. A cooling fan 38 is fitted to the machine.
