1377454 Shrink-wrapping J L LUCAS 10 April 1973 [18 April 1972] 17107/73 Heading B8C A wrapping apparatus comprises an oven for heating a plastics envelope covering materials to be wrapped, a cooling station to allow shrinkage of the envelope, the stages of pre-wrapping heating and cooling being located in line, and means for placing the materials under pressure being incorporated in the heating oven. As shown, compressible materials 8 are covered loosely by a heat shrinkable material at a station 1 from which they are fed by rollers 6 to a station 2 where the covered articles are compressed by a pressure plate 15 of a press and are then moved by rollers 6a, 16 to an oven 19 between rollers 6b, 16a at a station 3. The oven comprises relatively movable half-shells 30, 31 which maintain the same pressure on the articles and by means of a similar press as that at station 2. The rollers 16a are carried by a sleeve 27 which, with the top half-shell defines a circulating path for hot air from a blower 25. The stack is discharged from the oven to a cooling station 4 between rollers 6c, 16b and beneath a press similar to that at stations 1-3. After cooling the stack is moved to a discharge station 5 including rollers 6d. The apparatus may be fully automatic in operation by use of known programming devices.
