Abstract

A package wrapped in heat shrinkable film is subjected to electric radiant heat on >=1 side, means being provided for moving it in relation to a support, the radiation being such that its max. energy is centered in a wavelength of the order of 1.2 mu, the greater part between 0.4-4 mu, pref. 0.7-2 mu, the radiating elements being placed before plane reflectors. The method is very rapid, avoiding prolonged preheating times and the large heat quantities involved in the use of hot air. The radiant units may be above and below the support and at the sides, so as to form a tunnel around the objects. The bottom of the tunnel is at least partially open, or perforated, providing for the escape of hot air, and the articles are pref. carried on a wire gauze endless belt.
