Abstract

887,770. Bending glass sheets. LIBBEYOWENS-FORD GLASS CO. June 1, 1959, No. 18526/59. Class 56. Apparatus for bending glass sheets which are to be subsequently cut to a pattern outline comprises a bending mould 13 having a heat retaining member 19 mounted thereon which faces a glass sheet 30 when supported on the mould, the member 19 including fixed portions 20, 23 and movable portions 24, the movable portions 24 being mounted for movement to a raised position above the mould 13 for supporting glass sheets 30 prior to bending. The bending mould 13 and heat-retaining member 19 and the operation thereof are generally as disclosed in Specification 863,729. The movable portions 24 carry sheet support blocks 29 of a refractory material, the blocks being of varying thickness as shown in Fig. 4 to give a horizontal support plane. The blocks 29 are secured to the edges of the bar portions 24 so as not to interfere with the stress pattern of the heatretaining member 19. The blocks 29 may be provided with slots to engage the edges of the bars 24 which may be notched to prevent movement of the blocks.
