Abstract

830,389. Making multi-bore seamless tubes; extruding. T.I. (GROUP SERVICES) Ltd. July 22, 1958, No. 23478/58. Addition to 700,812. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). A method of forming a multi-bore seamless tube being a modification of the method of making a metal tube as disclosed in the parent Specification, is characterized in that a plurality of longitudinal bores are formed in a billet of e.g. chrome nickel steel and an austenitic core is placed in each bore, the combined billet and cores being reduced in diameter by hot or cold extrusion and the cores subsequently removed. The billet may be circular, elliptical, rectangular or other cross-section. The bores may be formed by drilling or the billet may be cast around the cores. Alternatively, a multibore billet is initially formed by extrusion, the cores being subsequently inserted in the bores.
