700,812. Making seamless tubes. T. I. (GROUP SERVICES), Ltd. Nov. 14, 1951 [Dec. 7, 1950], No. 29967/50. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4) Extruding:-A method of manufacturing a metal tube is characterized in that a combined hollow billet and austenitic core is extended and reduced to the required diameter by extrusion the core being subsequently removed. The austenitic core is a tight fit in an axial bore in the billet or alternatively the billet may be cast around the core. After extrusion of the billet and core short ends of the core are bared and a tensile force exerted on the core to reduce its diameter and enable it to be extracted. Tubes of chrome-nickel steel of any desired cross-section, e.g. non-circular or polygonal may be produced according to the invention with bore diameters down to approximately 0.062 inches.
