Class 7(5) In the inertia starter described in the , parent Specification, the flywheel comprises a heavy rim 1 with a radially inner flange 2 mounted on a flanged boss 3, the flanges sandwiching a disc 6 of friction material between them and the boss 3 being keyed on to a taper shaft 4 and secured to the shaft by a nut 7 which compresses a conical spring 9 pressing the flange 2 towards the boss flange 6 by way of a disc 10 and a ring 11 of friction material. A spring-loaded plunger 12 slidably mounted in the rim 1 engages a casing 15 under the action of centrifugal force when the flywheel attains the desired speed for clutching to the starter pinion.
