Abstract
829,392. Manipulating sliding clasp fasteners. SAUNT, J. A. Feb. 20, 1958, No. 5484/58. Addition to 796,611. Class 43 A sliding clasp fastener to prevent jamming the plaquet is operated by a device which comprises a blade 1, terminating in a curved tongue 2, and a central rib 3 having a pivoting hook 8 urged by a spring 10 to engage a notch 11 in the rib, the hook passing through an aperture in the tab 16 of the sliding clasp, and a beak 15 to retain the tab until the hook is completely detached from the tab. An abutment 13 on the tongue keeps the top of the hook spaced from the blade and has a face 14 projecting at an angle to the blade to enable a curved tab to be used. To close a fastener the blade 1 is placed behind the sliding clasp the tip of the hook engages in the aperture of the tab and in the notch 11 and the fastener is pulled upwardly by a cord 5 attached to the rib 3. To open the fastener the blade is placed in front of the fastener, Fig. 6, and the tab is inserted upwardly in an oblique recess 23 at the end of the blade, the fastener is then pulled downwardly.
