A box-type clasp consists of two members, one a hollow box 10 with a single opening at one end, and a tongue member 20 adapted to be inserted in the box member through thg opening and held therein by means of a sprune part, the tongue member engaging behind a projection 18 of the box member, each of the two members being provided with an attachment device 16, 22 for one or more strands of a bracelet, necklet or the like and the tongue member being provided at its end adapted to be inserted into the box member, with an abutment 23 so shaped and disposed as to engage within the box member during withdrawal of the tongue member therefrom so as to oppose completion of such withdrawal until the tongue member is moved through a predetermined angle relative to the box member so that the abutment is substantially parallel to the base of the box member so that complete withdrawal may be effected. The opening in the box member is substantially in the form of an inverted T and the tongue member is in the shape of an asymmetrical V, one arm 21 of the V being longer than the box member and having the attachment device 22 at its free end while the other arm is the sprung part 24 and has a main portion of such dimensions as to fit closely inside the box member with a narrow projecting portion 26 centrally of its free end, the arrangement being such that when the tongue member is engaged with the box member the main portion of the arm 24 engages behind the projection 18 with the projecting portion 26 projecting from the box member through the leg portion of the T-shaped opening.
