829,293. Wells. BUTLER, G. A. Feb. 23, 1956 [Sept. 16, 1955], No. 5696/56. Class 85 [Also in Group XXIX] A dual bore valve for use in well equipment in which oil or gas is produced from two levels, comprises a valve body 1, Fig. 4, having parallel bores 4, 5 therethrough controlled by independently, manuallyactuated sliding gate valves and connected to pipes 11, 12 withdrawing oil or gas from the two levels. The bores 4, 5 are formed respectively with valve chambers 6, 7 longitudinally spaced with respect to the valve body. Each chamber houses a pair of gate elements 18, Fig. 5, urged apart by springs 19 into engagement with seat members 15 having neck portions 28 mounted in valve recesses 16. Each seat member is formed with a sealant reservoir 20 closed by a piston 21 and connected by passages 22, 26 to an annular groove 27 in the neck 28 and by the passage 22 and passages 23, 24 with a groove 25 in the seat member face. When the gate valve is closed, Fig. 5, the gate elements are urged together and against the downstream seat member by upstream gas or oil pressure which also acts on the piston associated with the reservoir of the upstream seat member to force sealant into the grooves 25, 27 associated with that member to seal the valve. To operate the valve a non-rising stem 65 passing through a stuffing-box 54 and mounted in an antifriction bearing 50 screw-threadedly engages a bush 68 received in a recess 69 formed in the gate elements. A collar 59 on the stem 65 is engageable with a shoulder on the valve bonnet 37 to permit renewal of the gland packing. A bleeder port 57 allows oil or gas to be bled from bonnet space 56 before removal of the packing.
