Abstract

828,685. Injection-moulding. COLE Ltd., E. K., TERRY, B. E., and GLANVILL, A. B. Jan. 4, 1957 [Oct. 4, 1955], No. 28174/55. Class 87(2). A method of moulding a thermoplastic article with " undercut " contours comprises utilising a member of fusible metal in the moulding operation and, after moulding melting the member by heating it to a temperature insufficient to deform the moulded article. Due to the heat conductivity of the fusible metal member moulding is effected before the metal reaches its melting point. Suitable metals are said to be Wood's metal, melting point 60 ' 5‹C., or " Cerrobend " (Registered Trade Mark), melting point 70‹C. An injection mould for a polythene article 8 comprises an upper plate 1 with injection sprue 7, a hollow centre plate 2 and a lower plate 3 having recess to locate a bolt 5 carrying a fusible metal core 6. After moulding the article 8 and core 6 is held stationary and the bolt 5 is rotated to unscrew the article and core. The core 6 and bolt 5 may both be of fusible metal when moulding small articles.
