Abstract

507,610. Injection moulding. NEW. TON, R. W. Dec. 18, 1937, No. 35087. Convention date, July 1. [Class 87 (ii)] The major part of an article is coated with thermoplastic material, such as cellulose acetate, by forming lugs on the insert or on the mould, placing the insert in the mould, adjustably clamping a minor part which is to be left uncoated so as to tilt the insert and cause the lugs to bear on the mould, and finally injecting material round the insert under pressure. For forming handles for car windows, the mould is in two parts 5, 6 having heating or cooling channels 7. The handle insert 8 is supported on the lugs 11, 12 and has its base 13 clamped by a block 15 actuated by a screw 18 which engages the block 15 below its centre so as to produce a turning force on the insert 8. The insert also has a pin 22 engaging the upper mould half. Heated material is injected by a plunger 27 through a gate 32 situated on the parting line of the mould.
