Abstract

919,907. Riveting by injection moulding. BETTIX Ltd. Dec. 20, 1961 [Dec. 30, 1960], No. 44801/60. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXVI]. In a process for uniting two moulded pieces 1, 5 of thermoplastic material having egistering counter-sunk holes 4, 7, the two pieces 1, 5 are first placed together and compressed between mould pieces 11, 12 to reduce their com bined thickness, and then plastic is injected intc the registering holes tc form rivets 19. The parts 1, 5 are kept under compression until the rivets have cooled and shrunk thus ensuring a tight fit between the two parts 1 5. Spigots on the disc 5 register with an inner row of countersunk holes 4 in the other disc 1 and are cold-compressed (as at 18) as the injection mould is closed.
